The newest ultrasound technology adapted to liposuction is available at our Memphis, Tennessee-area practice. VASERlipo is a liposuction technique that uses pulses of sound energy to more effectively break up fat deposits without damaging nearby vessels, nerves, and other tissue. It is sometimes called LipoSelection™, a name that reflects the machine's ability to specifically target and melt fat while sparing surrounding structures.
If you're considering liposuction, Germantown, Tennessee plastic surgeon Dr. Ronald J. Johnson can talk to you about your options at Wolf River Plastic Surgery. request a consultation online to meet with Dr. Johnson or call our office at (901) 737-1050 and a member of our friendly staff will help schedule an appointment.
Your VASERlipo Procedure
There are 3 steps in the procedure carried out in the operating room.
- 1. Inject fluid into the tissue to firm it up and stabilize the fat. This isn't the commonly referred to tumescent technique, which involves much larger volumes of fluid placed in the tissue, which may lead to complications such as fluid overload or pulmonary edema (fluid buildup in the lungs). This process is much less intrusive and reduces the risks of complication compared to the tumescent technique.
- 2. Apply the pulsed sound energy to the fat to break it up and make it easier to remove.
- 3. Use low-power suction to remove the fat from the space.
VASERlipo helps conscientious patients who are trying to achieve a better appearance through diet and exercise to reach their goals. Surgery isn't a substitute for a healthy lifestyle, but individuals who seek the best possible appearance, but are unable to achieve this with diet and exercise alone now have 21st century procedures to help.
Dr. Johnson can extend the procedure to areas not treated with traditional liposuction because VASERlipo effectively liquefies dense fat with the ultrasonic energy pulses. Those areas include the lower legs and lower back, for example, in addition to complete removal of fat from the male breast, hip rolls, and back of the shoulder.
General anesthesia is necessary because of the heat generated by the probes. Using a general anesthetic includes some risk, which the anesthesiologist will discuss with you in detail.
What Does VASERlipo Cost?
The cost of cosmetic surgery procedures varies from region to region and depends on several factors, including the training and experience of the surgeon and the extensiveness of the procedure. A VASERlipo procedure costs slightly more than traditional liposuction because of the machine used, but Dr. Johnson believes the benefits are absolutely worth this additional price. Where your health is concerned, cost-cutting isn't the primary concern. Getting the results in a safe and effective manner are our top priority.
